Snapple and Sugar Cookies

November 10th, 2009 by doug

Sometimes in the middle of a giant transition, what your family needs a little bit of “normal.” Tonight Marissa and Avalyn made sugar cookies. Avalyn wanted chocolate chip, but so far we have been unable to locate any chocolate chips here. Baking was an adventure, as our tiny oven is older than my parents (which is REALLY old) and won’t heat above 330 degrees. The cookies came out great, with some minor adjustments and a lot of patience. As an added bonus I found a real Snapple iced tea at the little corner store near our house (you can’t find real iced tea here). It really is the best stuff on earth!

This is “Elsie,” our ancient oven. Two of the four burners don’t work, one only cooks on high, and the oven won’t heat above 330 degrees. This makes cooking like a game…you never know how its going to turn out!
