Getting to know the medical establishment

November 7th, 2009 by doug

In just over two weeks in Costa Rica, we have been to the doctor three times. The first week we were here, we visited Marissa’s new OB doctor (who is wonderful). Several days later we had to go in for routine blood work (related to the pregnancy) and yesterday we got to visit Avalyn’s new Pediatrician. It seems she has some chest congestion and a double ear infection. Oh the joys of a new environment…together with its new germs.  We are very thankful to have an excellent hospital (http://www.clinicabiblica.com) and medical complex only ten minutes away. Both Marissa and Avalyn’s doctors are excellent (and bilingual) and we are very blessed to have them. As Avalyn coughs her way through taking antibiotics, cough syrup, and vitamins, and Marissa watches the DVD of her 3D ultrasound from last week, I am reminded of the many people both here and abroad who lack the kind of quality health care we are blessed to receive. May we never take this for granted.
