About Marissa

I was born the oldest of 6 children to godly parents. While in the sixth grade my parents became faith-supported working for a children’s ministry in South Florida. Growing up, I was privileged to see God provide for my family in a way that most children could never dream of. These daily proofs of God’s faithfulness helped to mold and shape my worldview in a way no story or teaching ever could have. At the end of my junior year of high school my family moved to Budapest, Hungary. It was there that God continued to shape my heart for a future in full time ministry. I graduated from the International Christian School of Budapest and then returned to the United States to attend Clearwater Christian College. I had often made fun of freshman who began college and then immediately found “the one” that they were supposed to be with. I had made up my mind that I would not date anyone for at least the first year. God, however, saw my self-righteousness and it was during my first week of college that I met Douglas. I earnestly prayed that the Lord would show me if I was supposed to date him. After much prayer I decided that I was indeed supposed to begin dating him and have been ever since! I am so very grateful that the Lord led me to a wonderful man who genuinely wants to honor and serve God with his life. I graduated from CCC with a degree in Special Education. In the summer of 2005, Douglas and I went on a short term trip to Kenya. It was there that God laid a tremendous burden on both of our hearts to serve local pastors. It was then that we began praying about what seminary Douglas would attend. During this time I began teaching for Hillsborough County Schools and then had our daughter Avalyn in April of 2006. She is an adorable child with an independent spirit and more stubbornness than we know what to do with sometimes! January 5th we welcomed Analeigh Grace into our family. She was born in San Jose, Costa Rica, where we are currently living and studying Spanish. We are so blessed and thrilled to be used by God in Mexico City beginning in December!
